Cabrio 2001 mk3.5 front wheel bearing

Hi I have a 2001 mk 3.5 Cabrio 2.0L the drivers side wheel bearing has movement 3-5 mm when I rock the wheel top and bottom on a jack. The ball joint and tie rod ends are fine, I can actually see the cv joint wobble!! I know the previous owner had the cv joints re-furnished when we bought the car 40,000km ago.
The bearing isn't making any obvious noises but the movement cannot be good. The other wheel is perfect only a whisker of movement. Question could it be that the nut was not torqued to the full 265 NM? My torque wrench only goes to 203 and the nut is tight to that. Since I have done 40,000km is it likely the bearing is stuffed? I am contemplating trying to torque it to 265 to see if play is eliminated but think the bearing might be gone. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Ignore torque specs for a minute, and just do it up as tight as you can get it. See how it goes from there.

If the bearing has failed, it's highly likely you'll need the outer hub flange (the part that passes through the centre of the bearing, that the wheel bolts to), as the failed bearing will most likely inflict some damage on it.
