    MK3 TDi

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if you guys could give me a little bit of info on MK3 TDi's?

Any info will help. I have the opportunity to buy one but would also like to know aftermarket parts etc?

And what engine they use and and is it a good engine etc.

Thanks in advance for all the help

I am on my second MkIII Tdi. This one has just clocked up 160K and both have been 5 SPD manuals. They have the 1Z engine which is generally a fine unit. I would say its bullet proof when maintained correctly. Unfortunately I had to replace my injector pump about a year ago due to leaking seals (age!), cost me $1600.00 AU for a genuine Bosch unit out of the UK. Expensive but still cheaper than having the old one reconditioned here. Great torque from the 1900 and I fill it up after 1000km city on 50 litres. One word of advice though, DO NOT BUY AN AUTOMATIC!. The auto's in the MkIII could not handle the torque of the diesel and don't last, also very expensive to replace.

I get most of my parts out of the US as these were very popular there, check out tdiclub.com for plenty of help. They are rare to find in Australia and I believe only 47 sold here so your lucky to find one.

PS. Whilst I said I was on my second MkIII Tdi, we still have the first in the family which has done 210K and has just had a new clutch kit. It been sitting in my dads shed for the last three years but we can't bring ourselves to let it go!

    Cheers
