    MK3 Splash Plates.

After no avail finding a splash plate/bump guard. I'm getting one made by the mechanics next to work cause to be honest I'm just lazy and they'd probably do a better job. And I don't have a hoist!

They have suggested that if anyone wants one seeing VW didn't release them on the MK3 GL and according to Austral VW. All MK3's don't have them. They are willing to make more up if anyone wants one. Its made of check plate 1.3mm i think it is. Looks great when they are fully finished there are some photo's which i'll put up when installed on car. Mine will be the Template model lol.

Just thought i'd put it out there and see if anyones interested.

    Enjoy

The tray that goes under your engine to stop water splashing up onto your engine/dizzy. I have had a problem for ages that when I drive thru a puddle or if its pissing down rain water gets into my Dizzy and water stops firing. Therefor engine cuts out. Its a solution that I have found to work and I don't think i'll be the only one. My mechanic is a good mate of mine and he is doing up the splash plate. Its ventlated so air stil flows thru but also protects the Sump too. gives just that little more protection.

Could be a crap idea but its working.

are you talking about the underside engine cover or the lower side covers that are in front of the wheels
that attach to the bottom of the inner wheel arch plastic.

my TDI had all three - well not now that i have ripped out the 2 side covers !

Ohhhh that! I've seen some VR6s have them. I assume all VR6s did, but at some point or another they must have scraped off.

I'm pretty sure they can still be bought, just gotta know the right part number and VW should be able to source them.

My Tdi had a big flat plastic tray that was attached to the underside of the engine/subframe. The mechanic said he thought it was for aerodynamic reasons, and took it off the first time I took the car to him because he said it just got in the way. I forgot to pick it up off him, this tread has reminded me, but it was over a year ago now!!!

I know on some 4wd's you can get a dinger looking rubber that covers your dizzy (remember to tarp up kiddies)

are we talking about the plastic gaurd things that were like connected to the front lip and the wheel well gaurd things? I use to love driving around with those scraping along the ground. They did not last long on lowered golf. hahah

    If so, part numbers are 1H6 805 825 and 1H6 805 826

I don't know about other Mk3's, but on my Mk3 TDI the lower engine cover has a palsticy bubblewrap type of membrane covering attached to aid in lowering the TDI's noisey engine.
