Our engines prefer premium unleaded 98. Using 91 will decrease performance. Not so sure about 95 though.
hi, i have a 95/96 golf mk3 gl 2.0 litre, should i be using premium all the time or is normal unleaded ok, thanks

Most engines will benifit from using Premium fuel anyway.
When I have done the comparison between running regular vs premium it usually works out that although premium costs more, you get better economy so the $/Km works about about the same as running regular.
Add to that a higher octane means a cleaner burning fuel which is good for your engine and it starts to make more and more sense.
In short, run premium, you car will like it![]()

I personally try to use 98 whenever I can but depending on price at the time, i may turn to 95. I have put standard unleaded (91) in once but it really doesn't like it. you will get that pinging noise that has been spoken about in detail in another thread on this forum somewhere...
it wont hurt it to try it once just to see what I mean, but it says on the flippy petrol lid "UNLEADED 95 ONLY" and I can definitely recommend 98.
Nothing less than 98...
I suppose what you pay is what you get. Personally nothing less than 95.
