    MK3 AGG clutch install

Well I have the kit in my possession, this coming Saturday is the day. I have a few concerns.

    * according to sources, installing the clutch on my 2.0 is a pain in the a$$ and requires a special VW tool and the removal of a plate from the rear of my gearbox, which then needs to be replaced.??

    * my clutch slips only some of the time, at the moment it's most of the time but some days it wont? I can accelerate hard and there is no slippage at all. This concerns me?

Does anyone have any experiance in this field? any comments or contributions would be greatly appreciated. The mechanic at my best friends workshop (where the work is being completed) recently installed a r33 skyline (i think RB25) clutch, with machined flywheel in 59mins! It is suggested that 5 hours may be more likely for my golf.

    Thanks in advance all...

Nothing out of the ordinary to do on a MK3 gearbox. Not aware of any special tools required, except maybe to centre the clutch plate before doing up the clamp bolts.

The plate you removed is so that you can rotate the gearbox up a bit and the cv joint will clear the flywheel.

M8 spline drive to undo the CVs might be considered a special tool I suppose??

I used to do MK2 clutches in 2-3 hours on my own with no hoist, just using a trolley jack and stands.

Thanks Gavin, I was hoping someone would say that, I think the 'special tool' was to centre the clutch. We'll see how we go..

Centre the clutch by eye, or with a finger.
    Easy. You`ll be right.

Check your clutch cable before you start, if it is the self adjusting type, make shore it is shortened and secured before removing.
