CL spec only which is the pov pack and adequate engine only, but maybe just less to go wrong, usual Mk3 years 1994- early 98 as far as I know. 2000-5000 is probably the range, 2000 for blown gearbox or something that needs work but is still tidy, 5 should be getting into RWC country, and a chunk of service history and hovering under 200,000. That's just what I've seen. A minter for 6 could be a good deal all depends on kms service history and condition.

Get a manual though if you can, the auto in the mk3 is trash. Don't be affraid of wind down windows either, the electric ones are crud and break.

VR6s don't cost much more if you want more, no comparison in performance.

Good luck with it, keep us all posted.

Also, don't pay silly money for repairs, book it in with people like JMac at Alba more experience than anyone in oz I reckon, or Mike, I think, at RPM Exhaust Darra he's a locally trained VW mech, both passionate about their work and won't rip you off like you risk taking it to VW.

Golf loon has already built some vr6 ones might be one for sale. But consider just a standard 4 door vr6, probably won't cost anymore than the cl 3 door, and is so much more car.

RPM in Darra is a VW guy? I didn't know that?
And to the OP, buy the right car I reckon...Better than trying to fix up the wrong one. Unless you have plans for bare bones track special, in which case..Go nuts!

^ deal with Mike, he runs/owns it with his semi-retired dad. Not sure on his exact experience with dubs but he trained on them. good crowd to deal with helpful and passionate about their work too

Ted at Imparts in/near hamilton for dub parts, he's a retired VW Mech and knows his stuff, bought stacks off them this year and can't complain so far, even refunded some engine mounts which were my mistake for getting.

Only a couple of hundred 2 door Mk3s brought her in 95/96. All CL Pov Packs.
You can turn one into a VR6 easy enough, but it takes time to do it right and you need all the bits.
I have a schmick white 2 door VR6 for sale at the moment, but I want the right money for it. Offers welcome though.
