    Mk 3 shopping

Hi everyone, I've been looking at golfs for quite a while now on the usual car sites.

I've taken a liking to Mk3's and as such and going to shop for one this coming weekend.

Question is, what kind of things should I be looking for - both good and bad? And what kind of price range would be fair? I'm looking for 97/98 models, preferably 2.0L 5sp manual.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hey mate,

Please remember to use the search function on the forums. People ask this question all the time and it's been covered here before

Type 'buying mk3' into the search and you'll find a few threads about it.

I'm particularly annoyed I didn't look more on specific forums when buying. Seems like you can get a better looked after car then the general public owned rides on carsales. This goes true for almost all makes vw or not. Just an example, this looks like a good offer for cheaper then most on carsales. Plus the man behind it has a good honest reputation.

Yep, enthusiast forums can be good places to shop since, as the name suggests, ethusiasts tend to pamper their cars a bit more. Sure there are still a lot who don't but your more likey to see a reasonable history of what the car has been through in places like this.

I keep thinking about selling my golf, but then I have fixed everything and there is a good chance anything I buy will require more time, effort and cash than I can afford right now That and I can't decide on what I'd actually replace it with, VW for sure but what?!
