    mk 3 headlight upgrade options

    Hi all.

I'm pretty disppointed with the headlights in my mk 3. party cause they arn't aligned, but mostly cause the headlight output is just dismal!

I've currently got some mk 4 lookalike head lights in (which I'm desperate to get rid of!)

I'd like to move back to a standard dual chamber but also get some really good light out put.

Is single or dual chamber better? What's the go with HID's? Some bulbs better than others? Relay/wiring upgrades?

Any advice, tips, tricks etc is all aprreciated, fire away mk 3'ers!

Let me be the first to say NO to HIDS in standard headlights. They are not designed to work with HIDs and the light output will be rubbish as well as dangerous for other drivers on the road.
Hella/ABT dual rounds can provide good lighting but you pay through the nose for them (unless your lucky).
Dual chambers will be better than the singles, but still nothing to write home about

Im sorry but I disagree with this statement. I have run OEM singles and duals and by far the singles WIN.

In both lights I have upgraded to plus50 high beams and the blue vision 4000k low beams. So good!

All good Jimmy, I've run both too (one of each at the same time) and found the dual to be better!

Getting them aligned is the big thing, makes a huge difference. Doesn't help if the housing in the headlights are wobbling around though.

I had those expensive Phillips low beam bulbs and they made a nice improvement.

I had a set of Hella dual rip offs which I never had issues with:

    I then upgraded to these:

and WOW was there more light.

now I drive at night and wonder if they are on sometimes. Rayray's right, alightmient would help, but mine don't seem to want to move any further in the direction I want so it seems I'm out of luck

So I would also be interested in anything that gives some good light (and looks hot too)

I used to sell relay kits for MK1,2 and 3 Golfs when I was in the UK.

20 year old headlights covered in stone chips do nothing for light output, the light is scattered all over the place.

I'd go with new headlights of whatever style you prefer, any kind of bulb that puts out a whiter light. Then a relay kit, so that all the voltage and current makes it to the bulb rather than getting dropped at numerous circuit junctions on the way there.

And FYI I'm running Hella dual rounds, low beam is ok at best, hight beam is shocking, it's like turning on 2 little torches lol
