Thought I'd finish the plastics this afternoon after work but I didn't forsee so much wetsanding involved! Here's what I finished:
Here's hoping. My mate knows my deadline, I'm now relying solely on him for his help finishing repairs and hi-filling so I can wetsand and have the car ready for the spray booth.
I didn't know you didn't know I was spraying my car...although I should have worked it out because you haven't bagged on me for not having it done yet hehe
WARNING: Rely on yourself only if you wish to do it. Don't try and finish jobs like this having to rely on friends with resources because it doesn't work.
There's just a few things left on my list now:
-wetsand plastics
-shape and hi-fill the hatch
-hi-fill the front left door and bonnet
-wetsand those areas and finish wetsanding the door channels
Then the car is ready. I'm still hoping I can get most of that done tomorrow, but who knows...my mate and I are going to hope to have it in the spray booth on Monday the 3rd of May (two mondays time).

Good results Micky, should paint up well nice.
2008 VRS Wagon. Yellow, very yellow!
Forever blowing bubbles.
Well I have another update...
I got sick of waiting for my mate so I tackled the hatch tonight. It took like three hours, but was surprisingly less skill-involved than I thought! I thought I'd screw it up quickly if I made a mistake (40grit sandpaper...) but it was quite easy to shape, albeit a long process.
It's not 100% finished, there's an area above the P plate that is a little hazy and a high spot over toward the last quarter on the right hand side of the hatch. Close enough for tonight though!

Great work fulla (Y)
My car is now going to be resprayed at a panel shop.
Long story short, I stopped the worry and stress of trying to get my friend to help me like he initially promised, and I picked up my unfinished car parts from his house today. I've spoken to a guy at Seven Hills who was really nice and confident that it would be a simple task to complete once the prepwork was done. The bill shouldn't go over $1000, and I can rest assured that the job will get done, and get done professionally.
Now that everything is down to me, I'm halfway through finishing the repairs I was relying on being finished, and then they will need hi-fill primer, which I don't have access to (that one is going to be a headscratcher!). Once that's done, wetsanding those panels is all that's needed to finish the preparation.
Provided I can work away at a good pace, things should wrap up completely around Tuesday or Wednesday evening. The Saturday of next week will hopefully be the day I can trailer the car to the shop, and it will get done then.

Things never go to plan man, at least you know it's getting done. You can buy filler primer from autobarn or something that'll be alright.
Yeah I had a bit too much hope this time around at least it gives me reason not to ever do that to my mates.
Yeah I'll probably go get some tomorrow morning. I'll need thinner as well to clean the gun afterwards...
I've got a gun, but no air compressor lol. I'll have to see who's got one nearby that might let me borrow it for an hour. Fingers crossed I finish the bonnet tomorrow and can then hi-fill and be DONE with the repairs.
