Yea i think i prefer it with the black rub strips, maybe get them painted and freshened up though if theyre looking a bit old and faded.

I'm sorry but its also the right way of doing it. Why go to all the trouble of doing the hatch and then not taking any rubbers or glass out? By saying that it will be a poor effort in terms of where the paint finishes and the window rubbers start...Over time and with washing the car it will tarnish it.
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...
can't you leave the glass in and take off all the rubbers? and still get all the metal work with paint?
( you can do this on a mk 1, not sure about mk 3's thats all??)
