    Magnaflow backbox - square?

    Hey guys,

Got a mate who will sell me a magnaflow backbox. He came around today to show me and what I hadn't realised until now are that the tips are 2.5" SQUARE upturned tips instead of circular. On my Mk3 VR6 it may go, or it may not - I can't decide...

What do people think? Twin DTM square magnaflow tips...

    Cheers

Very popular tip pattern. Looks great on OBDI VR6's and GTI's I'd go for it, then budget willing get the suitcase muffler REPLACED not removed, with a smaller less restrictive muffler.

But yeah the backbox is a great start, I'm pretty happy with mine atm.

Hmm does anyone have good pshop skills for me to see it on the back of a white mk3?

Branko, he's got a hotdog 2.25" that I could buy as well, but he wants 100 for it...he got both the things free and he's a mate of mine so I want them cheaper haha

My hotdog muffler, was no joke... let me check the record (cheapest muffler ever... its pipe for fukc's sake) where is it... ah!
wait for it.............................. $40 make that $44 with GST The tips which were chromed mild steel were $66 for the 2" according to my receipt. Offer him $20 thats really how much its worth.

The tips are worth more than the muffler, say you have a magnaflow with tips, I'd give him $80-120 for that to be honest as it would cost you closer to $180-250 ($90 tip and another $100-150+ for the muffler) new, and another $90-100 for install.

Since the hotdog doesn't come with a set of tips, there isn't any point in getting it, try to get him to throw it in for free

    Dude...what???

The hotdog is a resonator and it's the middle muffler in place of the briefcase. There's no tips involved with the middle muffler lol. I believe it's worth around 50. The magnaflow, is the 100% official magnaflow muffler backbox thingo. it's supposedly worth near 400 new...

Well, you can put a hotdog rear muffler as a central muffler, its just a muffler really and your not putting tips on the end.
As for the magnaflow, $400 is a bit optimistic, probably closer $300 but that doesn't mean you have to pay anywhere near that amount for it

Just keep in mind about install costs, you can be surprised sometimes.

My mate will weld it up for me if I can just get a 2.25" pipe bent up to suit the hotdog>>muffler area..so hopefully it won't cost much to install

I dunno though...I'm looking on eBay, it seems as if you could acquire a new muffler even with the tips i would rather for just a tad over $250..

Awesome I look forward to hearing it Most exhaust places should be able to bend you up a few pipes, have a look on the 'tex on other DIY exhaust jobs.
