    Ummm, a new oil filter or replace the gasket between the block and oil holder housing.

    It'd take you all of 20 minutes to replace the oil filter (oil too naturally), if the leak stops, hooray, if not, well you know where it's coming from then.

    is they any oil looking sludge in the coolant bubble, might be the seal between the oil cooler and the oil filter

    looked at the coolant bubble .. i stuck my hand in the bubble .. i couldnt feel oil in the water .. although now that you mentioned it .. the color of the water is not clear ..

    I have been losing coolant in the past few weeks ...

    please dont say it's my head gasket . .

    Okay, for clarity, Sam does NOT have an oil cooler on his/her car.
    The water/oil coolers used on GL's/larger engines, sits between the oil filter and oil flange (the part hanging off the block with senders in it)
    They look like this....


    Sams car simply has the oil flange with the oil filter directly attached to it.


    I've got an oil leak in the same location cept I have a tangled mess of coolant hoses, connected to my oil cooler, to remove before I can replace the seal.

    Sam, grab a mirror and torch and start hunting around to try and find that coolant leak, it may just be something simple.

    doing that tomorrow avro .. will update asap .. hope it's something minor ..

    its pretty likely that it may be leaking between the filter housing and the block, like ray ray suggested.... but, it shouldnt be a rubber gasket at all, it should be fibre or metal layer.

    either way, the cheapest (and most educational) way to fix it will be to MAKE your own replacement gasket:

    1) remove the oil filter, disconnect oil pressure sensor wire. if there is a lot of dirt/grime around the filter housing, give it a clean.

    2) use 6mm allen key, remove the 3 bolts retaining the oil filter housing to the engine block. better than an allen key is allen head drivers and a 1/4" socket set. If you don't have one of these, you should, so go buy the stanley one from bunnings for about $50.

    3) buy a roll of fibre oil jointing paper from supercheap for about $7.

    4) put some ink onto the face of the filter housing with a texta or marker.... even easier would be an ink pad. then press the filter housing down on the gasket jointing paper onto a flat surface. this should give you a good impression of where all the cutouts in the gasket need to be. use a felt tip pen to clearly mark all the outlines then cut the gasket out with a razor knife.

    5) you can reassemble it dry, but I find its a good idea to smear some vaseline on both sides of the gasket. then reassemble.

    6) change your oil and put on a new filter.

    7) Go!
