ive installed them all, just have to wait for the Jb weld to set on the temp and fuel as the pin on the motor is too thin for the mk4 needles and they wobble.

    also removed the green filter.

was pissing down with rain and j really wanted to install the needles so since I didn't have any front seats in my car I just chucked the fluorescent lamp in the car and was bright as! + I had heaps of room car doesn't fit in the garage! what a bummer!

If you take the steering wheel of its a piece of cake. Just slips out. For an extra 2 mins work its well worth it.

It's definitely not required to take the wheel off.

It has two little notches you must lever it off and you can only pull it forward a few inches to remove the plug

Post up a pic of the speedo once it's plugged in and working, very interested to see what it looks like without the green filter, Did you end up installing some of the white LEDs instead of the green ones like Beau?

    Juzz's new VR6

This post is going to be abit of a diy I guess.

so I decided to change up my bulbs and get the White leds , but I wasn't happy with the poor lighting from just the 2.
there's one diy around and he puts in 8 leds. I was initially going to do that , but I would have had to take of the metal foil and solder in wiring(I'm hopeless with electrics and I'm actually shocked that I didn't break anything and that this actually worked Juzz's new VR6

    so the things I used were;
    soldering iron.
    hot glue gun.
    dremel.
    optional; 12v charger.

    started with removing the cluster.

now that it's out you'll see the 2 bulbs that light up the cluster at the top along a metal foil strip.

you can also see where I wanted to install another 2. I drilled it out and dremeled it so the led would fit. don't have to worry about making it work like the other bulbs that twist in. as long as each connection is touching on each side of the foil metal.

the LEDs only work one way. all 4 had "12v" printed on one side. I installed the original ones the same way, as well as the new 2 ones I have installed. I made sure that the connections were touching and hot glued them down.

tested the cluster back in the car and only the original 2 worked. I was confused.

I decided to get a 12v charger and cut off the end so I wouldn't have to plug it all up each time.

I must have put the wires on the wrong one as then the 2 Middle ones lit up and not the original 2.

that's when I realised they're in the wrong way... how annoying.

used the soldering iron to soften up the glue so I could spin it around.

then I was ready to test them and see if it worked. they all worked but they were flickering because they weren't held down properly. held them down and glued them and they stayed put.

all done. re install everything and you'll be a happy chap. atleast I was happy.
the iPhone pictures don't really show how nice the LEDs make it look. but the light isn't too bright and shows the WHOLE cluster. it's really amazing. fkn iphone.

defs worth the $7.20 on LEDs.
trust me please . all th pics taken of the cluster lit up just look sh*t the light output it great and Isn't just in the one spot. that's how it looks in the picture.

also a little write up on the my actual cluster.

    what's needed:
    mk4 needles
    a cluster
    jb weld
    screwdrivers

okay so you need to remove your cluster.

then you must separate your cluster by removing the torx screws in the back.

pull them apart and now you'll be looking like this.

carefully use 2 flat head screwdrivers to remove the needles. try to keep the same amount of pressure on both sides. be extra careful with the temp and fuel needles, they can bend easily as they're very thin.

try not to move around the needles as when you put the new ones off they're going to be off from the original position.
maybe mark where they were before.

the rpm and speedo needles go straight on, although i did snip a little off the end just because it was a bit too long.

as you'll notice the temp and fuel needles are too big and they just wobble around. get some jb weld and put a dollop on the motor pin and a dollop on the needle hole. obviously don't use too much and let it drip everywhere over the Motor.

I let that set for 24 hours before touching it.

tested it in the car and the rpm and speedo were out by about 1cm too low. I just adjusted them by taking it back out and spinning them clockwise until resistance is felt, then keep spinning very little. they're a a diy somewhere how to reset speedo or something. it's simple.

I also added another little touch, I'm not much of a fan of the redline that is actually orange, aswell as the fuel Empty being orange.

    but that's nothing a sharpie can't fix

nows it's done. hope i didn't forget anything. but I think it looks a lot better and very oem still.
