I heard you can do that, but I'm not a fan of cutting up OEM parts. I replaced mine with a K&N Apollo. It also reduced engine temps since the new intake takes up much less engine bay space and there is more airflow around.
Check my build thread. Although I have now since positioned it closer to the fender, further away from the engine.

I'm not a fan of random panel decorating but if you did the whole car that would be awesome! Love seeing unique cars at shows!
