It's been a while/need to ask some questions

    Hey guys!

I know it's been a long while since I last popped by here but last year my mk3 golf buying hunt was put on hold mainly because I was living in Europe for the most part of the year but have now returned back to the land down under for good.

Within the next few weeks/months I'm looking to purchase a 3 door CL (budget is about 3grand but I don't need anything powerful so a CL will suffice).
Today I went and checked out this: 1996 Volkswagen Golf Blue M Hatchback | eBay. The car was mostly clean, a bit of a ding on the passenger door and the paint needs a bit of work on the bumpers but that doesn't worry me for now because I have some plans for this. One issue with this was though, there was a bit of a puddle inside the front, passenger foot-well; the rubber seals around the bottom of the windscreen were either gone or about to go and there was a noticeable gap between the windscreen and the plastic leaf collection bay thingy - could that be the issue about the leak/would it be a lot to fix?
Finally, the car is located in Croydon, NSW and if I am to purchase this particular CL, could you guys recommend a mechanic for me to take it to so I can get it inspected before purchasing?

    Cheers (:

at a guess, Volkwerke in Eltham would possibly be the closest. Or maybe Volkscare (I'm not 100% sure, but I think they're in Bayswater)

my rubber seals on my windscreen are completely gone and i have no leakage in the cabin,

i have heard of rusting through the gutter into to the cabin before,

pull the covers off and look for rust.

I'll have a look if I end up going to check that one out again. Also, which covers are you referring to/where are they located?

was the windscreen also fogging up? if so the heater core could be bust; big job to replace unfortunately. check to see if the spill goes to the rear area if it does it's most likely coolant leaking into the cabin.

Well the puddle was kinda in the middle of the floor pan/floor mat but the heater core was fine as the aircon and heat were working perfectly. Again, will have to check if I end up returning to that car yard; have spotted another 3 door and shall enquire about it within the week or so.

EDIT: Did a bit of googling and came across this thread in the forums mk3 water leak apparently it is a known problem, as you guys kinda suggested and it should be nothing to be too worried about but easily fixable! Shall be using this knowledge against the car yard dealer to get a bargain on the golf, considering I make a return!
