    interesting indicators

Today i tried to put in the clear front indicators of a 94 VR6 into my 96 GL and noticed that it can't really be done with a straight swap.

The 3 teeth from the bulb holder are slightly different and don't fit into the lens.
Then thought id change the bulb holder but that didn't work either as the teeth/fork that goes from the bulb holder are a little bit longer and don't fit click onto the black plastic thing where the wires go.

Was wondering if anyone else has come accross this? if this was a VW re-desiegn down the track of the mk3? or just different between VR6 and other models?

That's strange, I thought it was a straight swap between amber and clear front indicators. Have you double-checked the alignment of those teeth on the plugs? They're all in different orientation so only fits on one way - one teeth is straight, one skews in the clockwise direction and the other in the anti-clockwise direction.

yeah i did, many times. I realised that one length of plastic in between teeth is longer in one lens than the other, hence why the teeth (2 angled, 1 square) won't line up. I thought it was just me but it fit perfectly straight into the old orange one.

There were very minor differences between the 2 bulb holders which made me wonder if there was a difference between 94/96 or VR6 and others.

    very confusing.

Nope, I had the same problem when I swapped to clears (OEM ones straight from ze Mutterland aswell). Can't remember how we got around it, but I've still got the ambers lying around so I can check the solution for you some time?

Just had a look, it seems that we had no problem with the actual fitting of the indicators and it's all coming back to me as I type. One of the old bulb holders had corroded onto the black plastic thing so that was our only issue.

I swapped over the entire assembly including lens and bulb holder with no dramas? Sorry mate, can't help any further than that..
