It wouldn't be that hard to win any kind of comp in tassie, would it? I heard there is only 6 people living there now... lol

All that those 'key' things are is a flat piece of metal that you stick down each side of the radio and then it unclips it so it basically just slides out. If you get a new headunit before you take out the old one then it should come with
some so you don't even need to make em. Your friend should know what I mean.

I find it easier to get the unit fitting nicely if you remove the whole surround, when your running rca's and thick speaker wiring it can get a little bit tight behind there.

You can give it a bash, but not all keys will fit/work with all head units.

What I have done in the past is just to head down to the local sound place (I have a choice of about 4 or 5 locally) and ask them to borrow their keys. Not all places sell/install all brands so may not have all keys. In my case I had to go to a couple before someone had (or was willing to help) keys for a JVC player. In the end the guy walked out, went click, there you go, and away I drove.

I usually make a point of keeping the keys for at least my current system somewhere so I can pull it out when I want to.

Got the cd player in, after 2 hours... The oem radio has little holes in it which you are meant to be able to put something in and that releases it. But as hard as we tried we couldn't get it out that way so we took the whole surround out and did it that way. Wasn't to hard really. My friend made me an adapter out of all of his electrical gear so i didn't have to buy one. So now i can listen to my ipod static free!
Have no radio until i get an adapter for the new unit but not to worried.

Here is what the new unit looks like...

    Nice work.

Although not in any way a priority, I'm thinking of replacing my head unit with something blacker My Pioneer, like yours, is very silver and looks a little out of place in the dash.

I just wish I still had my JVC Chameleon:

    Would have gone in nice

Yeah this one was just so i had a cd player. I'll get a black one eventually lol. It isn't chrome though so it doesn't stand out to bad. For only $149 when it's RRP $329 i wasn't complaining! Silver goes with the colour of the car too...

    PS: Go skaifey!!!

Not sure. The one I had was bought new in 2001 then sold in a car earlier this year. At the time it wasn't worth pulling out.... now...

That is seriously one of the coolest units i've seen! My mate has a pretty awesome Alpine but that is good. Might have to keep my eyes out for one
