Are we talking VR6? If so you need to be careful and I would recommend getting a replacement tool. I believe that VW sell them.

Yeah it is a vr6, I'll see if i can get one today. Any other options
Supercheep sell vey long nosed pliers for $10, which you can use if you are very careful.
