How do i change the km in the instrument cluster??

So i've just replaced the instrument cluster with a working one, the km/h wasn't working, but now of course the km reading is not the same. Do i have to go to volkswagen to get it changed???

as far as I know, you cant change it. It'd be too easy for sellers to wind back the clocks otherwise

    The answer is *maybe*...

My MK3 instrument cluster doesn't come up in VCDS and I can't even do things like reset the SRI's via the computer (just through the button press combo's)...

But there is a product called VAG Tacho which has a very similar looking cable to the Ross Tech or FleaBay jobbies but is different (which is to say I have never managed to get a Ross Tech or eBay OBD cable to work with the VAG Tacho software). This cable does exactly what you want...

Now I haven't bought one myself so can't comment, but a *very* quick google turned up one on Deal Extreme:

Most people think because its digital it'll be super hard or impossible but in fact its easier and undetectable, you don't even have to take the cluster out in 99% of cars. Don't think newer cars or German cars are more advanced either, Fords have so far been the most challenging where you have to hard wire on to the IC that controls the odometer.

It isn't to hard to find a place that will do it for you as it is not illegal to do (only illegal to sell a car with a wound back clock knowing its been wound back). In most cases you have to supply the original cluster are proof.

A LOT easier to do than any analog odometer. For most applications you just need a USB to OBDII and some certain software I'm not going to share on here.

Here is the website for the OEM:
Opel and VAG cars diagnostic software Reading PIN code by OBD cable!

I have read mixed reports over the years of the cheapie knock offs working (or not) for different people.

290EUR isn't cheap if all you want to do is reset the numbers to match.
