    Hoodlinings... With a sunroof

Anyone have experience with repairing hoodlinings in a Mk3 that has a sunroof?? Started pulling mine down thinking itd be a super easy one piece card just with a space for the sunroof. How very wrong I was. Looks like the old hoodlining card was cut up to accommodate the sunroof mechanisms so all ive got is about 40cm of card at the back and 20cm at the front where the visors fit and interior light fit with the rest in the middle just a whole lot of cloth...

yeap, had the same revelation with my golf. spray the inner roof ( ceiling? ) with contact adhesive, the same with the headliner.
mount the card as appropriate and press the headliner against the roof. most golfs although ' factory ' were actually cut once in australia as ordered. if you look closely you'll notice the sticker somewhere on the sunroof designating where it was done.

Did you find that the middle of your hoodlining card was all missing? Mine only has a small 40cm piece left at the back and and 20cm one at the front. I feel like the best approach would be to get a new card and just cut out where the sunroof and sunroof mechanism (like storage area when its open) is and leave all some card on the edge for the handles etc. It would mean itd still be one piece and i'd just have to glue it up in the section behind the sunroof.

Got similar issues with mine, your lucky you've got some of the headlining board, I've only got the fabric and a piece of cardboard over the sunroof mechanism.

I managed to get a headlining card from a VR6 wreck last week, so I'm hoping to cut out the sunroof section, maybe even re-mould around the sunroof. Not looking forward to doing it actually.

I'd be intrested in any pictures to give me some references.

Yeh man will do on the photos. Bloody hopeless way to redo headlinings in sunroof cars hey. The US got proper sunroof hoodlining cards that were specially made. I think I might take it to some one who can have a look at it though. I reckon if I do it it'll be a dodgy job

Hello guys if this post is still current then you can blame me as I install aftermarket sunroofs and its standard practice to "cut "out the middle section . You see the original lining shell is pretty close to the outer roof skin and when you install the sunroof the shell will not fit back in place . So we cut the middle out and then retrim whats left the fabric is glued to the edge of the opening and then its tucked over and down into a recess , you can only get to the rear edge and back corners with the sunshade and glass removed . As for proper moulded shells these are usually only available for a genuine factory sunroof and will not suit aftermarket ones , some time ago in the US there were a few moulded shells made for popular model aftermarket sunroofs but the problem was everbody has there own preference for positioning the sunroof so the mould would not match . Please feel free to email me if you need some help with your problem we are based in Brisbane , eastcoastsun@optusnet.com.au Regards Howard
