high pitch noise from rear right of the car

On the drive home last nite heard this high pitched noise as i was driving along, pulled over and had a look. Nothing seemed wrong(but then i know next to nothing about cars), started driving again and the noise disaapeared.

any clue as to what was the cause of the noise?

    thanks in advance

    Wheel bearing?
Does it undulate in pitch as you change speed?

what sort of noise? either a wheel bearing or sometimes stones can get caught in between the discs and the brakes or brake shields if u have been driving on unsealed roads. That happened to me in tassie. It was very embarassing as we pulled back into the chalet car park as the noise it was making was sooo painful!

well if its a rock then try reversing a bit to flick it out backwards, thats what i do when i get a rock stuck in there. it has happen a fair bit with my gf's outback. jack the back side of the car up and spin the wheel around to see where the nosie is coming from. if the wheel can move in and out at all then the bearings need to be adjusted or changed if there broken.

If its a rock check then you can move slightly the metal sheet at the back of the disk and force it out there!

The fuel pump is also near the right rear of the car. Something to keep in mind
