    Hi VR6'ers.. need your advice

    Hi there guys/girls....

ive been looking at a VR6 but i feel the box is on its way out.(manual)... its done 220000klm..(95 model). the engine ran a bit rough, not a smooth idle..
    My question is:
what is the likliness that the box needs replacing.(quoted $2450 for the box only)..or that engine needs to be recoed... ive heard VR6 motors are pretty strong.. Im not sure, it may just need a major service...plugs... leads.. etc..

what have been your experiences out there..

oooh...also i noticed the steering was a bit heavy, has 17's on it.....is this normal.?

thanks for your help in advance!!..

im in nsw.... the whole shift (box) feels a bit sloppy... may need a shift kit? and the engine seems a bit tired too, but still pulled well (as far as i can tell)... running a bit on the rough side, but im not sure when the plugs, leads and filters were last changed...?. May just need a big service and tune...... how many k's has your VR6 done?... any probs?.... mario.

Those boxes don't quit with that kind of Ks under them. Check it has the right amount of oil in it for starters and don't pull it out before investigating other causes like badly adjusted linkages etc.

The only thing that can happen is the diff pins breaking which wrecks the casing.

The shift linkages can be adjusted. The cable shifts do often feel vague in my opinion.

Thats too much for a Gearbox. I`d charge $1400 for a low ks one or $1000 for one with 150,000kms but both with warranty.

Steering could feel heavy due to big wheels or because pump is dying, or it has the wrong oil in it.

My VR6 has 240,xxx k's on it. Engine goes just fine.

It used to idle poorly though, new spark plug leads fixed that.

NFI on the g'box. I'd go with loon tho.

With a plugs and lead change by themselves you do notice a change straight away oils and that just sweeten the deal and its awesome there are a few mechanics in Sydney that can help you with a service, William, Seb(Bug Racer)

I got mine done with William really good and was telling me what his changing before and after everything was done.
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...
