Hi (New member and new to VW)

labelled as a money pit because of its constant fixing/breaking/repairing?..Reading on some of the threads and its kind of putting me off tbh.

I was aiming/lookin for a reliable car with minimal fuss.
I just wanted a nice/clean VR6 to start off with and then have it lowered with nice 17's rims and a exhaust.

Only a money pit if they havent been properly maintained, much like any performance car.

have it inspected and make sure they look at lower control arm bushes, strut tops/bearing, engine mounts etc.

any car with k's on it >150 you may be looking at replacing the clutch.

probably the best 3 questions to ask are:

Has it been regularly serviced
Has the clutch been replaced
Has the heater core ever been replaced

If no to any of the questions tread lightly.

My car had regular services some not at a dealer, the heater core is fine (touch wood), and at just under 200k on the clock when the clutch went.

It also was owned by a guy who obviously never gave it any stick as it blew smoke for a couple of weeks any time you pushed past 3500rpm hahahaha

Hi Joey, mate don't listen to some of the cars are money pits yes you do have to spend money on servicing and maintenance but they are all the same!

If you find a good one you will probably still have to put money in to it but not as much as you think. Best thing is to take a mechanic with you as well as they will obviously know alot more than anymore and will be able to pin point you to the problem and then bargain that price down with the owner of the car. When i find the car i wanna purchase..i plan for it to be inspected regardless, so i hope they can find the faults there.

heyhey! another VR convert (nearly) . . . good to see you found VWW! did you jus google it?! . . . jus wanna add that make sure you can see that it's had regular services! logbooked even! i bought mine with a full vw dealer logbook service history and 280k on it and NO problems so far! (touch wood touch wood touch wood touch wood touch wood) . . . so yeh jus do wat others hav suggested and you'll be fine

Can any1 help me locate the Heater Core???? Where is it located and how do i identify if its been repaired/replaced etc.

Its inside the dash and its a bitch of a job to change thats why check to see if its working or not. If the heater core is gone the coolant pipes to the heater are blocked off or rerouted. Also, obviously the heater wouldnt work.

No way to tell if its been replaced other than going on the word of the seller. Let us know how you go after seeing it Hopefully u should be driving a vr6 on monday lol.

I don't have any idea on VR6 values, but the indications are good. One owner, low K's, service history, the main things I'd be looking for. Hope it's as good as it appears to be.
