    Hesitation under power

Hi all. I'm having a few issues with my VR6. Car starts fine, idles smoothly, and drives great when driven normally (i.e. not caning it), but after the engine's warmed up and I give it some in second, I get these flat spots of power. Sometimes very short like a hicup and sometimes they last a bit longer, for a few seconds. It almost feels like not all cylinders are firing. Then it will all kick in again and off we go. I don't get it if I feed the revs gradually, it only seems to happen when I'm flooring it. It also doesn't happen every time. I'm thinking it's electrical or something to do with the injectors. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?

    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Hey Thomas.

I have just recently (yesterday) come across the same problem. spoke to my old man whos a mechanic and he said to replace the fuel filter. When I bought my VR6 we never replace the fuel filter so thats whats got us thinking...

    coil pack or throttle body.

Try reving the motor at night and see if you get a fireworks display from the coilpack, its on the end of the motor above the gearbox.

I had (haven't noticed in a while) the same problem with mine, and my thread was replied where many said could be sparkleads + sparks. I will get around to fixing them if I notice the problem again but even that doesn't guarantee the problem be fixed.

i have replaced my fuel filter thinking it was blocked. Although it was very very dirty it wasnt blocked.

Still does jerks and plays up occasionally. No fireworks from the coil pack...

My leads are aftermarket ones. Magnecor Competition. would it be them?? arnt they generally a good brand?

magnecor are a good brand. I have some with no probs. But what carl refers to is daves car which was doing exactly the same thing. But yeah it could be leads or coilpack or something electrical like that.

Where abouts are you located TVB?

    I'm located in Rozelle, NSW.

I haven't solved the problem yet and it seems to have got worse. It never happens in the first 10 mins of a drive (don't worry, I don't boot it till things have warmed up a bit). I do get a bit of choking just after start up, when i change to second gear. I'm thinking it's not the fuel filter but maybe the coil pack or throttle body as Golf Loon suggested.

tassie_euro_mk1 - what's your next move after the 'no fireworks'?
    Cheers,
    Thomas
