its always a good idea to exchange details. even tho there is no visible damage. sometimes bumpers pop out so it looks fine but there is damage to the reinforcements behind the bumper.
Hi Guys,
Wasn't sure wether to put this in the 'parts wanted' section or here, but thought it was more suitable here.
I drive a '97 VR6 Golf. I ran into a guy at the lights, it was my fault. He drove an old hyundai excel with black plastic bumpers, I left no damage on his car. On my car I bent a panel and smashed a headlight. It could have been much worse, but it still feels terrible afterwards. :S
I'm posting to ask the follwing:
- Where can I find a replacement headlight?
- How much should I expect to pay? (There is one on ebay at the moment http://cgi.ebay.com.au/GOLF-VR6-TWIN...QQcmdZViewItem ) Is this the correct replacement for my Golf?
- In the picture, you can see the panel that is bent. I can't tell if its plastic or metal. If it is plastic I assume I would have to buy a new part and paint it? Where would I find that?
On another note, even though the other drive and I agreed there was no damage done to his car and we did not need to exchange details, he still took my rego down before he drove off. Any ideas why? I'm afraid he is going to do a dodgy on me...
Thanks for any help. I'm disappointed and emarassed about this!

that headlight is the correct type yes.
which do u need? driver or passenger side?
I have 3 vr6 headlights kickin about at home but im not sure if sciencevr6 still needs some. But yeah. i might have some spare. happy to let em go for $50 each
the other part thats damaged looks to be your grille.. the bottom section is metal. id weigh up the difference in price to having that repaired over buying a new one. a new one would need paint anyways.

Always take down the other person's details, even if they don't ask for yours... they could have had their licence suspended or any number of things they don't want the 'authorities' to find out... gives you a step up on them just incase the try something stupid...
Not to say that was the case but you get my point.
Sorry to hear that, if you hit the other car in the rear you are very lucky that you stopped quickly enough to have only done the damage described.
Good luck with the headlight.
hello!
thanks for the very quick reply guys. Tim, if you have a spare passenger side head light your willing to sell for $50, you've made my day!
hopefully this guy wont do anything dodgy. i'm concerned a bill might show up at my house for any damage he might claim i did to his car... i'm sure you could get a new excel bumper from the wreckers for what, like $20 anyway... lol
I may get a panel beater to take a look at that bent section see what he thinks. Hopefully its just the reinforcements behind.
ill check it out for u tomorrow mate. i have so much junk in my parents shed! its time i started sorting some of it![]()
Good luck mate.
Hope all goes well.
