Welders and mechanics are not always the same people.
A skilled welder would do a better job on this task than lots of mechanics and be cheaper.
There is a welder in Alexandria, near Mitchell St who is good, dont have his no, but I found him in yellow pages.
Do the ring round, its a five minute job and should be cheap.

    good advice.

i've got a mate at work who has a mig welder - i might get him to have a look at it - hopefully we can do it without the car catching fire.

my boss suggested using wet rags to line the footwell when welding.

    such a poor design!

Lining the footwell with heaps of wet cloth is a good idea and will save you heaps of dismantling time. Its only a tiny bit of welding.

thankfully am still mobile with the car so am not stressing out too much.

i read in the service manual the steps involved in dismantling the pedal assembly and removing the clutch pedal - it doesn't look too appealing.

i particularly don't want to have to mess with the master cylinder.

such a poor design from our friends at volkswagen!

Crikey, what a pain. Im lucky none of this sort of stuff has happened to me. My clutch is about to die though. Must go shopping for one soon.

Which mechanic did you go to??

FYI I live in Bondi too. My Vr is the one parked on the footpath on Old Sth head.

If you ever need some local knowledge let me know.
