    Hi ki11z

I paid for the roof to be fixed , it ended up being a roof relay , they charged me $313. yes that is a lot of money for a relay. If u need me to, I can take some pics of it. If am sure there will be a generic at a fraction of the cost

I also got the passenger window fixed as well. Another $550 for a cabriolet window regulator. I am just watching money fly out the window!

"as for the fill, do you do it through the speedo cable?"

I am not sure I did it right , I hope someone can comment.
There is a plastic cap/lug on top of the gearbox, it clicks in and out of place. It looked like the place to fill the transmission fluid. So after about an hour when the metal epoxy had set , I filled it with what Bently said - synthetic SAE 75W90. To my horror it poured out, but not where I fixed the small hole.

So I either have put the fluid in the wrong place or I am unlucky I have a big leak in a different place.

I will upload a pic soon of where I filled it and where the new leak is

I was able to talk to Jim Mac. glad I did

I thought how unlucky am I ? driving on a nice smooth road how does a rock jump up and smack the gearbox? well it most likely didn't .

Straight away what he said made sense. He said it is most likely a rivet has sheared off inside. I even found the rivet too. I imagined a rivet hurtling around at a million mph and then busted its way out of the transmission case like an alien busting out of an spacetraveller's chest cavity in that classic movie.

So I will be in for some dollars . The wife is holding the crucifix up at this Mk3 by now!

well to make things worse I put transmission fluid in the wrong place, I guess everyone but me knows you shouldn'tl put it into the timing hole .
no doubt there will be better days ahead!

it is vw part number 155919603

it is a relay that has 2 coils in it or really a twin relay.

mine was corroded inside. My sympton was the dash roof down switch would not work but the up one did.

I did not see it get pulled out . I think it was in the trunk or under the back seat (but I am not sure)

here is one on ebay , with pictures

    No 154 VW CABRIOLET ROOF RELAY 155 919 603

Hey mate, did anything change when you replaced the relay? Do you hear the contacts click when using the dash roof switch? If someone can operate the roof switch while the other person feels the relay, you might be able to determine if the relay is doing its job

Hey Paul, so VW reckon my relay is getting power but it isn't passing it on. I've replaced it, with a second hand unit though, so maybe I was sold a dud?! Do you think it would be possible, to try yours on mine before I splash out more money on a new relay? pleeeeaaaaaase?
