    Hawk at the drags

For my first time out I had a lot of fun.

Three runs, reaction time was pretty good on the second, but all the runs were round the 16 second mark and 90 mph, a little slower than I expected, but still a bit of fun. I don't know that I would go again unless I did some work, still it was fun.

Edit: just noticed the videos are missing lots... will fix later when I'm awake

Edit 2: Videos should be fixed now.

i love doing 1/4 mile runs, broke my 1st gear on my last lot of runs.

16.3 is my best to date, will try an improve that when i bring her to Oz.

it's all to do with the take off, soooooo tempting to rev it high and dump the clutch hehehe

Yeah, that was my problem with the second run, just a wee bit of wheel spin

I don't know that it will go much faster, but then like I said it was just a bit of fun with some mates

Fun is the main thing. What's the point in doing stuff like that if you hate it.
What was the other car in your last run? Couldn't quite make it out in the video.
    Cheers,

I was with the GMH - Torana boys, so I would have guessed a Torana, but since, from the bit I can see, it doesn't look like a Torana, I am going to guess it was the either a VL or the old skool Skyline one of the guys was driving (there was three of us in non Torana's in our lane).

Here is my mates runs if your interested:

Good to see a benchmark for others to see how they fare.

What have you got other than your Lukey system Aaron?

With a perfect launch, cool conditions etc... would it be wrong to say high 14's is possible with a stock VR? I don't mean to disrespect those figures as I couldn't do better myself.

Not anything really, cold air intake + the exhaust is it to the engine. The suspension and sway bars is about it for the rest. Lots of little touch up's round the car, but it's basically stock.

None taken, for my only outing I'm by no mean an expert. Also remember this is and always will be a "run what ya brung" sort of car, while I don't have 'things' rolling round in the car, I do keep all the essentials like the seats, amp, sub, spare wheel, tools etc in the car (and I'm not exactly anorexic. Oh.. and the day before as I left the servo I realised that maybe I shouldn't have filled the tank up the day before... But then it was never about getting the best time, just some fun

As for cool, there was condensation forming on the cars while waiting for the next run and the MAF readout for temp was 16 - 18 from memory.

    The runs:

Run 1 caught me off guard with how quick the lights turn green, there really is no warning, one minute the "your in the beams" lights are on, then it's green. For that run I had rolled in and had my foot on the brake when the lights went. So that was really a run from dead stop idle.

Run 2 I got in a good burn out () and was ready with the revs up... a little too up as I got wheel spin through first gear. Great reaction time, lousy time.

Run 3 was the best, decent reaction, decent shifts, no wheel spin and it was still only a 15.7

If you tested and found the perfect shift point and got the perfect launch, maybe. If you were really keen you could remove some of the excess weight, the cheapest and usually most effective way to increase power to weight. I think between diet, exercise, less fuel and removing the basics from the car it would loose 100kg+ which has to help.

Long story short, yeah I think high 14's would be possible in a stock VR under the right conditions.

i ran a 14.8 just after purchasing it, i think i may have had the 2" press bent cat back then but i dont see much improvement from that weak exhaust. the first was something like 15.6 then 15.2 then the 14.8 lastly, i'm looking at heading out again with some mates to see what i run now? i think you definately need to feather the clutch on launch to control the wheel spin, like its been said the launch is everything

and i'm not sure you'd loose 100kgs+ thats a lot of weight unless you have a lot of stereo, beer belly and rubbish riding with you!

I could prolly lose a fair whack if I ditched most of the leather interior in mine

I think scienceVR6 ran a 13.xx once, but he basically stripped the whole interior (including door cards!) + tools, stereo, etc.

As far as I can tell optimum launch is 4k and shift point is about 500-rpm (ish) before redline.

I dont really wanna drag mine. Too afraid i'll destroy the gearbox!! Am keen to put it on a track some day soon tho
