If the switch is the same setup as the MK1s they can fill up with crud pretty easily. In a MK 1 it's located at the front of the hole in the tunnel where the handbrake sits.

Hey guys,
My car is confusing me. The bulb for my handbrake light is fine, as it turns on when the rest of the dash-lights come on with 'reds'. Sometimes it likes to dim, or completely disappear when the car is on. Sometimes it's fine. Obviously this is all when the handbrake is applied, haha..
Is this a wire problem or something?
Cheers

Yep, sounds like a dodgy switch.
