how much too wide?
Has anyone used Ground Control camber plates on their MK3 VR6?
I bought a set for my 96, parts arrived promptly, pretty good service, build and quality are excellent etc, but the camber plates just don't fit.
Its like the angle of the taper of the section that sits inside the strut top is not right, and the base of the plate is too wide to fit the strut tower so it cant position correctly.
The guys suggested my car may be brazilian built which they have encountered issues with before however after checking the VIN its definitely a German built car.
Im not here to bash these guys either by the way they have been in contact with me and are trying to figure out what, o do to fix the problem, Im just curious as to whether anyone else on here is using these camber plates and if so if there were any fitment issues?
Any info greatly appreciated!
how much too wide?

'99 A4 Quattro 1.8T
not a huge amount, but the cup section is wide enough to stop it from reaching the top of the strut tower, leaving a gap of about 2.5mm between top of the cup section and inside of the tower.
Just measured the old OE rubber mount which is approx 98mm diameter, the cup section of the camber kit is 100.5mm, the angle appears to be visually different too, although I cant find a protractor to measure it![]()

Ohhhh I plan on getting the Ground Control camber tops as they require no body modifications.
Did u get this kit: Ground Control - Camber Plate - VW( MK II, III ) A2, A3 Chassis (Pair)
Yes thats the kit I ordered, Im hoping its just a slight variance in tower design or similar, the ground control guys are looking in to it now.
In the mean time I can tell you the build quality is sensational and the guys at ground control are great to deal with.
Nobody had any experience with this kit locally?
I've found GC kits have been quite spot on when it comes to fitment - I bought a set of their coilover sleeves years ago and they fitted perfectly over the Koni struts I had them matched to.
Have you tried cleaning the inside of the top of the strut tower? I've found that some of the rubber of old mounts have "stuck" there. Besides that, I don't know what else you could try...
If you look the "autocross" section on VWvortex heaps of guys have them on their Mk3's. There is thread on them.
Update on the issue:
Jay at Ground Control is having a new batch of kits made up to suit my car, seems there are a few different versions of the strut tower depending on where the car was manufactured so he will keep a small number available. Jay has dimensions of a vehicle the same as mine now and will send me the new parts when they are finished.
Very pleased with the service from Ground Control to date, theres always a bit of trepidation I guess when dealing with overseas vendors for the first time especially when something goes wrong but so far they've been very good at working to get the issue sorted as quickly as possible . Will update when the new parts arrive..
As a side note, at the same time I ordered this kit I also ordered a crap load of other parts mostly from overseas. For the most part everybody has been very good to deal with.
Ordered parts from:
42Draft: Very good service prompt delivery very professional bug thumbs up!
DDI: Super fast delivery easiest transaction you could imagine.
Delonix Australia: Ridiculously fast delivery (ordered 4:30 on a Wednesdasy arvo delivered 7:00 Thursday) Great after sales service and support
Ground Control: As above
TM Tuning: Hmmmmm... Super fast to answer emails when making initial enquiries, rubbish after payment was made. Long story short - Take days to answer emails if at all after payment is made, don't answer questions with proper responses, and only got a tracking number after I sent email to cancel order and request refund of money. Only getting part of my order too the rest will be sent one day I guess? I don't know when but Im not holding my breath..I wouldn't go out of my way to shop from them again put it that way![]()
Update:
New parts arrived from Ground Control this arvo, just sat them into the strut tower and all sweet, fit like a glove so I'll finally get the car back on all fours tonight!
Massive thanks to Trevor and Jay at Ground Control, they went out of their way to make sure they got the kit sorted out, VERY Impressed with their service and effort, cant recommend highly enough to anyone who might be contemplating using these guys!
