Golf mkIII OBD port and software

    Hi all,
I've bought the "Torque" software for android, as well as an OBD-bluetooth adapter to run diagnostics on my mkIII Golf. I've found the port, plugged in and paired the bluetooth adapter, and gotten my android tablet to recognise the adapter within the app, but the software is coming up with issues. By the looks of it, the adapter can't "talk" to the car's ECU, meaning I can't get any information at all.

My question is, should the OBD port in the mkIII support these things, or is there some issue that means it can't be done? Do I just have a faulty adapter (a "Vgate Scan, advanced OBD scan tool" bought from an Australian seller on eBay)?

Has anyone managed to get a similar system working on their mkIII?

    cheers,
    Ross

    update

I've now tried the adapter and software on another car (2007 Hilux), and it worked great. So I'm thinking there must be some issue running this stuff on the MkIII.

Does anyone know about the OBD plug in the mkIII? Is it OBD 2? Is it active (I assume so, because the adapter does get power)? Is there an adapter that will work (bluetooth, USB, WiFi)?

    Thanks all!

When I had my VR6 I remember reading individual wheel speed, vehicle speed... maybe RPM (although it wasn't important for what I was doing at the time)... and a host of other bits a pieces so I believe it should work.

Might be worth trying on another MK3 to see if the problem is restricted to your car. I'm sure there is a forum member willing to come play

Now if only the makers of Torque would make a port on iOS I'd get on that band wagon
