Going Limp

This might be a duff lambda probe or one that is slow to warm up. Not easy to diagnose if it is. Swapping in a new one might prove it or monitoring the output voltage with a scope. You would need to check it from stone cold.

Mine is a late '93 build. I find too that at just over 3,000 revs when oil temp is below 50 degrees, even with light throttle, the engine cuts back and the car stutters along. If I restart the car it resets and clears the problem, but I can hardly do that moving in traffic.
If it is supposed to be a feature of the car to stop it being thrashed when cold, it is silly as it can be quite dangerous in an emergency situation.
So, just wondering if there is a fuse or some other quirky VW fitment that I can remove to stop it doing this.

Not a feature, it's a fault IMO. I'd have the ECU scanned for faults first.

THe early ones did have a cut back in the ecu, this one sounds a bit more fierce but only recently had an early one here and i revved it cold and it ran like a turd, anyway with refeerence to the lambda probe you are in open loop cold.
