GL misfire/air/water in fuel line problem?

    Hey guys

I mentioned this in my thread before. Due to the heavy rain in the last few days in brissy, my car is once again experiencing a weird problem under acceleration. To me it sounds like misfiring, but could also be due to a water leak somewhere hence why it only happens when its been raining.

When I try to pull away from stationary the engine chugs and sputters until its cracked the 2300 rpm mark. Does this through 1st 2nd and 3rd gears. When clutch is depressed and I rev the engine it does the same thing.

Anyone have any ideas what this might be amd how to fix it?

    Thanks, Gus.

i have the same problem, i haven't figured it out but it could be related to the MAF/Fuel Pressure Regulator/IAC and throttle - need a VAGCOM to test the codes.....
OR the Vacuum system for the fuel, which may include the fuel pump - if the cruise control or recycle button for air vents doesn't work it might be this....(i.e. the vacuum pump or vacuum line problem..
If you've played around with the Thottle dashpot, the pedal cluster or throttle contol valve apparently the computer will pick this up and revert to a basic mode.
I hope i got that right, as thats my understanding of it...and it is limited

Does engine temp have any effect on it?

I was experiencing this exact same problem too. After heavy rainfall the car would be an arse to start and stall before reaching idle. Once I could get it to start I'd rev it to 2000 and it would stutter and make really bad "gurgling" noises. I'd then let it drop to idle before mashing the accelerator and it'd do the same thing.

Replaced the fuel pump yesterday and haven't had an issue since so I guess maybe check that?

engine temp might if it only happens when it isn't at operating temp, but only If it was feeding the ECU and that was causing it (i.e. bad mapping), but it shouldn't cause a backfire. The 4 pin temp gauge disconnect it and see if you get the warning light on your dash. Also the 2 pin on the one on the water reservoir will also give you the warning light.
Misfiring might be the key here, might need a timing adjustment, check the inside of your distributer (pitting, cracks and carbon), the leads and plugs, and the earth wire.
