    Getting Started Mods

Hey guys just bought a Mkiii 2.0L GL and have just joined VWWATERCOOLED.ORG.AU

it has 14in mags (boring!!!), and CD player that i put in today and thats it.

i was wandering what mods would be a good starting point on a limited budget as i am at Uni.

my budget is around $300 and want some performance mods and cosmetic mods.

Hit me with what you've got guys, i know the $300 budget is puny but all i can spare at the moment.

    thanks for the help guys.

well im not sure you can do much performance enhancing mods for uner $300? maybe cutting your airbox open or getting rid of it and replace it with a pod; decent set of plugs and wires; new oil; an exhaust would be useless, loud and annoying imo?; As for cosmetics, a set of lowering springs/grinder; some darkened vr6 tail lights (from me); a deep vr6 front lip (not from me).

Good luck! and welcome to VWW! stick around! . . . . laterzzzzz

Welcome to VWW There are quite a few of us with VW's who are still studying! Here are some of the mods that you could do with that budget:

The best mod I've done will have to be changing the suspension, but it's not worthwhile unless you can get both uprated struts and lowering springs together, which will set you back at least $1000.

You can prob find a set of wheels for $300 if u look in the right place and refurbish them urself! I'd do suspension first and then work from there but that means a bit more saving

Yeah i'll put some pics of it up now.

it has a set of 14in mags which are about to be replaced with 15in Holotype R's with falken tyres (off a mate for free!!)

i'm in the process of replacing the front door speakers and placing new speakers in the rear door. (excluded from my budget of $300)
    **any tips for this procedure???**

i'm after a lip style bodykit or mods to replace the cheap looking black plastic extensions with something a bit better looking.
    (SOURCES??)

i think i will prob whack a K+N filter on it.

Anyone know if there are extractors made for the 2.0L?

    P.S. i'm studying I.T. at UWS penrith.

    thanks for your help guys

    Hey welcome to VWW muggo05
Given you have had it serviced, lowered ( which I have not, very embrassing!!!) fully checked out and extra 300 to play with.
    With first 100,
Definately give your car a fully treatment
    1. Clay bar ~$30
    2. Polish ~$20
    3. Wax ~ $20-30
    4. Wheel polish ~$15
    5. Black Shoe polish for bumper, sideskirt. ~ $3

Definately go swiss cheese with k&n filter or be creative and DIY a CAI, ~150
Get some NGK spark plug ~ 80
    Good engine oil.. ~50+

In future you can go with badgeless grille ~$150, euro lip ~$120.
GUYS... you forgot to mention window regulators ... hahahahhahahahahahha

Rememebr to post pics OK (part of the initiation process)
Well.. here's the list, do what you fancy. ENJOY.

I'll take some photos tonight if i have time of the rear door speaker install as i have to finish wiring mine up. its really pretty easy, the hardest part is getting the trims off.

Has your car ever had speakers in the rear? if not it becomes a little more tricky.

whats this swiss cheese idea that i keep reading about?? how do i do that?

what does this euro lip look like? where can i get one from?

is there anyway to change the indicators to clear ones? (front bumper and side repeaters?)

so far from your suggestions i'll go with a K+N filter.
    performance plugs and leads

No never had speakers in the rear, have had the speaker covers off and looks perfect for a 6in speaker. dont fancy chopping up my parcel shelf for my 6x9's i have!!!

its actually a 6 1/2, 6's will fit but you need a spacer.

If its not too dark when i get home tonight i'll take my car apart again and get some shots so that you can do it all yourself.
