Getting a relay to fit back in

    Hi guys,

I replaced Relay 30 to try and get my 2.0L golf running consistantly again, to get at relay 30, I pulled out relay .99 and 36.

Relay 30 goes in fine, .99 goes in fine, but relay 36 had a bit of copper bridging underneath it and I cannot get the relay back in. So the car goes, just no indicators .

Any tips for getting it back in? There is a free longneck of boags draft if someone comes over and demonstrates getting it in.

The copper bridge should be in an empty relay socket. Does your relay perhaps go to one side or the other?

It might be one to the left from memory.

Also the fusebox has a white release clip on each side and then flips up and out of the holder. Then it is easier to see in a Golf 3.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have another look tomorrow for another socket that has the right pin pattern and we'll see how we go.

I never knew about the flip down bit, hopefully a little less cursing tomorrow!! hehe.

Alrighty. The relay doesn't fit into any other socket other than the bridged socket. So because I can't get it in with the copper bridge, I made my own "slim-line" bridge and that still didn't solve the problem.

Anyway, so everything works except for the windscreen wipers, which after much digging on google turns out to be the number 99 relay<http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Wiper_Variable_intermittent>. I have one setting for the wipers now and that is superfast or nothing

So why would the 99 relay be dodgy? Also what the hell does the number 36 relay do? nothing apparently, everything else works fine.

Ok mate you have made a minor blunder, the bridge does belong on its own. Ok lookingh at the fuse box top left being position 1. Relay 30 would be in posi 3. Pos 6 is for 21 which is your indicators. Pos 8 is for 99 which is your wiper relay mate. Pos 9 is for relay 36 is for light left on buzzer. Pos 10 is the bridge on its own. So you have got them mixed up a little. Mate you are right car will be fine with 36 oout but if you leave your lights on you wont get a buzzer - easy fix.
Just remember top row 1-6 and bottom 7-12.

ps meant to mention the bridge is for the foglights

I'll give it a go tomorrow mate.

After hours of googling you'd think someone would have a picture, but apparently it is a bit of a dark art understanding which bit does what.

    Thanks for your help

Yea it started fine when it was warm. I feel sorry for the people that need more than to replace the relay though.

I hate fixing electricals, much better pulling out power steering racks hehehe.
