Yeah this is true. I've got damper adjustable shocks with height-adjustable springs in my car (basically a coilover concept) and I'm much happier with my ride than those with coilovers that don't have dampener adjustability (namely my mate's 180sx!)

Ive been approached by JOM to start bringing in their products but have been umming and aaahhing over it as Ive heard mixed reviews. People seem to complain of a harsh ride. But then they also seem to have them set extremely low as well so you would have to expect a harsh ride at those heights even on an expensive coilover system.

Im thinking of bringing in a few sets maybe just for evaluation if anyone is interested in them. They have been getting some ok reviews on the US forums recently . I believe they come in mk1 through to mk5 fitments.

here is an example of affordable quality kits, with features found in many
    $2500+ systems.

    both under $1500.

under $1500 locally? where from? I think Weitecs were another brand that were being sold under the 2k mark. But not with the same adjustability.

Also not everyone requires features. KW, Bilstein and H&R all do systems that dont have adjustable damping yet I wouldnt consider them poor quality. One thing to understand is that different products at different price points will appeal to different people.

I think what needs to be done is compare the cheap coilover kits to a comparably priced spring/damper package as that would be its direct competition in the market.

In my personal cars I run Bilstein and soon KWs. But then both of these options cost in excess of $3500 locally. Certainly not what the average joe is going to justify spending.

Thats a very competitive price if theyre as good as you say. There seems to be a lot of reasonable quality stuff coming out of taiwan for euro cars now. They are an interesting mid range alternative.

Just did a quick google search and most people seem to be paying $1500 - $1600 for them.

Its still almost double what someone would pay for a set of raceland/JOM/Hot Tuning coilovers though and the only advantage is in the damping adjustment. Im not convinced that these brands are bad for the money. In fact everyone seems to say the opposite other than some thinking they cant be any good because they are so cheap. I still think so long as theyre ok these brands have their place in the market.

I run JOM's in my VR6 on 15's and I've never had anyone complain about the rough ride or even notice that the suspension has been modified. They're mass produced and not terribly complex, thats why they are a cost effective alternative, not because they are of bad quality or made of cheap materials.

the great thing about various coilovers is there is no reason to say

"i bought hottunings because thats the only affordable coilover on the market before we get into the german made stuff" ie kw's.

it allows us owners to choose from a variety and with that considering the different budgets we all have .

i mentioned what i did so everyone is aware of good quality coilovers at affordable prices. your not only restristed to hottunings.

anyways tim, is there any projected new parts in sight like euro lips and bonnet struts, yet.

I have had my HotTunings in the MK3 for over a year now and very happy with the overall quality and ride of them. For the price and local support, you cant go wrong, but if you can afford and require a higher end product, then by all means spend the coin.
