I adjusted mine without the tool, just put the gearbox in reverse and then put the gear lever into reverse. Then its a matter of tightening the clamp at the gear rod then checking if it shifts properly. To align the side to side movement u just rotate that clamp and then eyeball inside until its perfect. It takes a few goes at adjusting that clamp but it works

I`d be happy to do it for you mhewitt, bring it to my workshop at Campbelltown if you like.

We have the special tool to line up the gears, but can do it pretty easy like peedman says. Line up in reverse or 1st and then fine tune. Or use the 14mm nut trick

    golf loon -
    thanks for that

i've already done the bracket, so have had to realign the linkages - i really just eyeballed by putting the gearlever in neutral, straight up & centred, then nipping up the linkage in a similar, neutral position

then a couple of small adjustments, & it shifts well

but i'm going to have to do it again for when i replace the bushing inside the car...

    so, i'll bite - what's the 14mm nut trick?

Yeah when in roam they can be aligned with your eyes closed, but why bother when you have the tool?????? Same goes for cam belts and the likes, they all can be done with bits and bobs, made up plates and drill bits etc but if the tool is there i know what i would use.
    Each to there own
