If you dont have a 17mm allen socket, you can make one from a 17mm bolt and a couple of nuts. Lock the nuts together on the bolt and you could use it to undoo the drain plug.
Well the Motul oil arrived today, going to have a crack at putting it in tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

This is going to show how un-mechanical I am, but I cant find a 17mm allen socket. Biggest I could find was 10mm. Tried supercheap and bunnings, no dice. So I tried the nut+bolt thing but couldn't find any 17mm sized bolts either. Found a 15mm bolt in the shed... but god I suck at this!
Is 17mm some kind of bizarre proprietary VAG size?

Industrial fasteners shops they're all over the place, nuts,bolts,screws etc.. Check your Yellow Pages for retail or industrial fasteners like this place.....

Dude, haven't you got a big tools warehouse type of thing like Bunnings over there? As far as I see they look like they sell every tool ever known to man in such an abundance that you couldn't walk in and out without getting what you need!
....Failing this, just steal one from a mechanic for a day!

I got one of from one of those old guy shops...where old guys sell tools and old guys sit around talking about other old guy stuff...sometimes they sell a tool...cost me about $12 bucks for the key..
