without being too rude, search is everyones friend! check this lil number out
Hey guys. Just signed up after snooping around for the last few weeks. Firstly thought id introduce myself to you all but i have mainly signed up for help in my search for my first car and what will hopfully turn into a build up aswell.
Im chasing down a golf, vr6 hopefully, and i was wondering where i should start when doing inspections and such, what to look for, are there any typical problems to look out for that the casual eye might overlook? ie. rust, wear and tear, mechanical problems and such that are typical of golf's?
Basically i just wanna be an informed buyer when i go looking.
Also, anyone who knows of any VR6's for sale if you could give me some info on them that would be great. Iv checked out carpoint.com but was wondering if theres any little gold nuggets sitting around that ar'nt on the internet.
Cheers guys.

sent you a pm
Searching will find you a LOT of threads the same as this one.
Check:
timing chain (vr6)/timing belt (2L)
heater core
working air con
all windows working
those are what came to mind in a few short seconds.
carsales.com.au will have vr6 nuggets in it.
Yes, make use of the search function, now that you're a member (welcome aboard!)

Thanks for the reply's and links guys.
Im aware of the search function as im a member on another board that uses the same forum program/setup or whatever you'd like to call it as this one, i just thought id introduce myself and ask a question in the same thread though.
Looks like i might be in for a little bit of cash but hopefully labouring can hold me for a while untill i get a career sorted.

Also, what can i expect to pay to replace a busted timing chain and can it be easily replaced DIY? My dads pretty handy with cars and my mates dad is also a mechanic and has a substantial workshop at home as his son races in the commodore cup and he has drag bikes so im sure we could save some dollars there not having to take it to be worked on.
