I can always hear a humming sound when driving. Is that from some kind of pump (water pump)?
Also there seems to be this ticking sound coming from the ABS module (at least I think that is the ABS module, the one on the passenger side of the engine bay, with narrow steel pipes coming out). Is that normal?
I have asked my mechanic to look into this, but each time I turn left I can hearing a grinding sound. He told me the first time there was some loose plate which he tightened, but its come back again.
Thanks again for everyones input.

I think you need to understand (I am on this learning curve at present) that cars, performance cars, low volume cars, modified cars cost money.
Im 18, had a 190E benz which has dug me a bit of a hole im working to get out of atm. I have the VR as well, which isnt problem free as such, but nothing "major yet". Mickey has been on a similar path with cars giving him grief. It gets even more frustrating when you want ot modify components. Cash spent repairing isn't cash spent customizing, stretching your patience further.
As far as quality goes, my VR is ahead of mates with commodores and what not by a mile. That suits me fine being young. There are guys putting mk4 seats ion the mkk3's with custom rails. More comfortable, leather, recaro whatever...so getting the luxury/quality of the mk4 in their 3.
Also, tlak has been of the mkV being down on quality compared to the mk4. Its not going to be an audi, but you arent paying the badge premium either. So at the time when the 4 was built, you can rest about the quality. Take into account the afformentioned weater pump and tensioner etc though...
You have a VR. By the time you sink ther coin into it that it deserves and buy QUALITY parts which will save you in the long run, you could probably have built a mild tune GTI. 2 different characters. Both as good as each other IMO (not having driven a mk4 GTI mind).
The VR makes me smile. Its nuggety enough. More so once coils are on. Sounds horn. Not many on the road. And if you are talking about booosting things, well then you move into another echelon.

besides. you are on an enthusiast forum
look at some of the build threads rays/mickeys/steves (when he gets his backside into gear) come to mind as being of sizeable efforts immediately. they are sinking hard earned time and dollars in....there is your inspiration, well at least the mk3 argument
