    Fuel Gauge - 97 VR6

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone's had experience with temperamental fuel gauges on mk3s? Mine seems to be getting progressively moodier the longer I have it and I can't figure out why. Basically, it no longer shows that the tank is full, even when I stupidly fill it right up to where you screw on the cap. This started a while ago but has gotten worse over the past year such that it now sits at the first bar down from full even when I've brimmed the tank with 98.

Anyone got any ideas? I noticed the other day that it was bouncing around a bit and would then settled down again, I just dont want to run out of fuel because the gauge is faulty.

    Cheers,
    Max

Fill tank with 98. Reset trip meter. Fill up again around 400km mark. Mk3 clusters are notorious for playing up.

Mine does this max. I 'know' that I can get 400km a tank. But fill up less depending on how I drove that tank.

    mine did for a while.

and i questioned the petrol station

happened only a handful of times in the years of ownership.

basically a full tank (nozzle click) showed up as half or even less on the needle.

seemed to fix itself and i usually fill on kms (450 usually).

Hey mate, my '6 has a temperamental fuel gauge as well. It literally drops rapidly as I'm driving til' about halfway then it'll slow down again, but if I attempt to fill the car up from that point it'll only take about 14 litres or so. Just something you should know as mine's gotten moodier as well since I first purchased it. And as the other guys said, just use your trip meter and your MFA as well, I fill up around the 400km mark.

lol, wicked solutions!.... man, it's obviously either the cluster or the sender..next time the tank is low reach in there and have a play with the floater or replace it with the one from my wreck (Joe has it)... Or you can grab one of my clusters here and replace yours to see if that's it.....

Mine doesn't always show full either when I fill up to the "second click". It will be slightly lower.
