Fog Lights, Windows, Cruise Control and Brakes

    Hi guys

New to watercooled and I have a newbie thread - Newbies Corner - (First Posts)

I got my car quite cheap but have a few things I want to sort out and any help from you guys would be great!
    1. My foglights don't work? I don't have the car's manual but I'm guessing the foglight switch is the one under the headlight switch but they aren't turning on?
2A. One of my rear windows had a broken regulator but I also broke the glass attempting to get to it. Will it be simple to put replacement glass in myself as I've never done this before?
2A. The drivers window doesn't work at all and I know this to be either the switch or the motor. There is a clicking noise when I press either button so I'm guessing it's the motor. Is this easy enough to replace?
    3. I simply do not know how to use the cruise control. Pretty unimportant but would be interesting to know
    4. My brakes make scraping noises, this means pads am I correct? Can I do this myself?

Thanks for any help you can give me guys

    1. the fog light switch is on the same control as your headlights just switch it to high/low beam (on the right) and pull it (on my Gl mk3 i only have one fog light bulb in the rear right)

2.the glass is quite simple to replace if you know how to access the regulator (removal od door card) just undo the bolt and it will slide out the holders (i have done this to all 4 windows to remove ugly blue tint) quite easy to find a tutorial on it.
2a. if the switch was broken there wouldn't be any noise at all, regs are infamously known to break. Like i said in #2 just search for a tutorial. (it could possibly be in the manual)
as for the rest I'm sure someone else will help you.

Scraping noise sounds like its time for new pads. Take the wheels of and check the thickness of the brake material. Anything less than a few mm I would replace them. Fronts are dead easy to replace, providing you have some basic knowledge and take your time. Do one side at a time, that way if you forget which way it all goes back together, you can use the otherside as a reference. Give yourself an hour or so if it's your first time. As Elliott said, there will be plenty of tutorials on the web/YouTube.

Here is a scan of the owners manual for you: http://mooshen.com/vwwc/golf/golf_mk3_manual.pdf

As for your works, grab a Bentley Manual, best money you could spend if you're planning on tinkering about your own car.

Everything else seems to be answered, but chances are your cruise control is broken as they fail all the time. And the only standard fog light on the mk3's we got is one in one of the rear tails, in the front there is just dummy panels if you were thinking those were fog lights (I did when I got my first mk3)

Mine aren't dummy panels lol and I have 2 fogs in rear.. one on each side. I must be different lol.
Your drivers window regulator has gone. However that noise your hearing is your motor trying to work. You can pick up the regulators from Matt/golfloon @ Camden GTI he has some in stock, and they aren't too difficult to fix. If in doubt there are tutorials for it.

My understanding is that there is provision for two fogs, but only one is hooked up and depending on which country you are in it's one or the other. Apparently it's easy to wire up the second one, although not something I have attempted.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I fixed the broken regulator today (with the fix in the DIY section) and will just pick up a second one reg for the front window.
I'm thinking my foglights are just dummies as the pull switch doesn't turn them on
