    Fog lights

What is standard and what is not?

I've had the car for a few months now and have only just realised I have rear fog lamps

I know the fronts were added, but rears? Is there supposed to be a seperate switch for front/rear fogs or is it all done by the one switch on the headlights?

Front Fogs were optional in Aus. A single rear is standard. Yeah its a seperate switch, but on the same knob!

You should be able to switch the front foggies on then both front and back together, ist a european thing.

Im not sure how it works on a golf as i dont own one yet, but hopefully soon haha, so yea thats how ive seen it work on other european cars dont see why golf would be different except for the fact that we got the crappy version and had to fit front foggies ourselves, correct me if im wrong.

    Cheers

i know on mine to opperate the rear foggie, you just turn the headlights on, then pull the switch out, the rear foggie turns on along with an indicator lamp. I would assume yours is a two stage pull out knob?

Nope, single stage pull switch that turns on both the rears and the fronts.

You can put another bulb in the back to have two rear lights... I find it helps for parking at night and for irritating tail-gaiting drivers when they stop ay traffic lights.

The rears were stock on the mk3 in Australia, and they were also one on each side so they were extra bright! Also the fronts where not an option they weren't even legal hence the fake foglights! You can get ebay ones that do the trick abd with this you will need the 2 stage euro light switch comes out twice pulled fronts first and then the rears!

All our cars came with rear foglights, since our cars were "Euro-spec". Standard is a singular bulb so motorists won't confuse it for a brake light. However, you can mod it so both sides light up - just dremel open the side that is covered up and fit in a brake bulb. All the wiring is actually there.

    Parking lights only:

Parking lights + both rear foglights:

Foglights I believe were optional on the VR6. I know of a few that came with foglights from the factory (including Draco's dark green example).

As Steve mentioned, the headlight switches are different between cars that have front foglights and those that don't. Pedro recent retrofitted a set of standard front foglights onto his GL and his two-stage headlight switch allows his front foglight to come on when pulled out on the daytime running light setting. On the low beam setting, pulling out once would switch on the front fogs, and pulling out twice would switch on both front and rear foglights.

I my case the switch can only be pulled out with the lights on and it's only a single stage switch. I'm pretty sure I have 2 rear fogs and WOW are they bright... The whole reason I noticed was because I was driving down a dark road and kicked on the fogs and noticed the road behind me lit up

As for Fogs being illegal, not that I'm aware of, at least not having them, it was when they were being used that was an issue. When every WRX and Evo lookalike strapped on fogs and run them 24/7 the cops were targetting them.

Since then they have also moved to just about every car in either front or rear form but I haven't heard such a fuss about them lately. Mind you it irritates me when on a nice sunny day you see that Falcon Ute with parkers and foggies on...

Back to the issue though, dual stage swich you say. Might be something I have to look into, although reality is that except for dark deserted roads and, well, when it's actually FOGGY the fogs aren't turned on.

Euroswitch....two stage pull. Yellow light is front fogs on, Green is the rears.
The odd one has been prone to melting or shorting out here!

I can grab the part # off it if anyone needs it
