Headlights sorted.......on to the next fix up.
The starter motor had been growling a little, so I pulled it to give the planetary gears a lube job. (Pain in the arse that you have to support the engine to remove the starter )
Pulled the outer case off the starter & the hard plastic ring gear just disintegrated into my hands.......no wonder it was growling, it was slowly eating itself. New starter required.
Brand new run from about $450 - $800 depending on brand.........Camden GTI to the rescue with a 2nd hand unit $165.

After both rear seat release pulls broke in the space of two weeks I decided to try a hack rather than try and source some second hand ones that would be as old as the ones that just broke.
made a dodgy pull from some tie wire
got that done and thought why don't I just drill a hole I the old knobs and glue the wire into the pull.
cut the old knobs down and then drilled a hole that was a fairly tight fit on the wire.
cut the "wire pull" down till they where just long enough to allow the knob to sit right down into the seat.
this is with the catch in the lowest or engaged position.
this is with the catch in the raised or top position.
glued the knobs on with superglue, would probably use silicone if I had to do it again though.
released position
engaged position
lets see how long they last................
