fan blower not working / whats this part?

i have 2 problems which after a long time of ignoring them, ive finally decided to do something about them.

#1 my fan blower doesn't work anymore. i have had my dash out and when it was put back in i dont know whether or not the connection to the blower was missed. is there an easy way to check if it was or if its the blower itself that has done its day. i dont particularly want to take the dash out again. (its a mega pain )

#2 ever since i had purchased the car a couple years ago ive had this part that didnt have a home, ive tried googling the part number to see what it was but couldnt find much info on it, i also dont know where it belongs. im thinking its to do with the a/c?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you so much peter. that diagram is awesome.

the fans dont work at all, which is why im thinking either the switch is stuffed, or the connection wasnt made to the blower when the dash was put back in.

IIRC it stores pressure which in turn keeps the re-circulate flap closed.

I think you mean it stores vacuum.
Im not sure but it might be the vacuum hose thats just above the coolant hoses going into the heater core?

negative pressure is still pressure right??

anyway i would take the top stereo part out inc vents that way u can at least have a decent look behind the fan controls to see if ur missing a plug or sumthing. if the panel looks ok then its something else uve done which might need the dash out again

looks like the windscreen washer water tank...... might be the one in the rear up against the rear brake lights (if you have a rear wiper)

    Yep, negative pressure

And yep, it runs from engine vacuum into a valve operated by the re-circ switch, this is a reservoir that holds pressure when there is no vacuum. The piping from the valve runs through the heater core (for no apparent reason), into the cabin and to the re-circ flap in the fan box. I have had to replace that line my car... it's not fun to get at
