    The Ever reliable VR6....

    i cant win.

Blown a heater hose this morning on the way to work. Which sucks, couse the heater isnt working. I had to wrap the hose in electrical tape to get home then add some water.

I recon that VW knew that the hose would break. couse they give you this lovly little light to tell you that your coolent is flowing steadily down the exhaust headers and foging up the windscreen.

And i already know that this is VW's $136 hose.

Sometimes prevention is the way to go. Buy a kit and replace em all. If one was on its way out the others are probaly nearly there too.

BLAH! I think reading this thread jinxed me! I blew a hose on the way home - oil temp was at 122degrees when I noticed the steam and pulled over

Actually, mine is not quite a hose, its a plastic tube that connects to a hose. Its just behind the coil pack and points down, and connects to the same part as (I think) the engine loom plug. Anyone know where I mean??

Mate, im know exactly where your coming from. If its not one thing its another. You fix one hose and notice that another one is on its way out. I think its because the VRs have got to that age where they need some cash put into them, changing all the hoses one time is a good idea, something i couldnt really afford to do.

Everytime i get into mine now im always thinking its gonna overheat...like this morning going into work, the temp slowly rose to 110 and im waiting for it to go down..nothing.....i look at the oil temp and its creeping up too...104...106....when it hit 108 i was like fck....and turned the car off. I cant understand why its getting to that temp in the first place...maybe thermostat, but could also be the fact that my thermo housing is leaking slightly too!

These unfortunatley are the consequences of owning an old VW....you have to to remember the VRs are getting on a bit now, mine is a 94 which means its 13 years old!!!
