    Engine swap

    New:
Can someone tell me what engine and transmission will fit in a 95 Cabrio. Can I put a VR6 into it? The car is currently auto. The front end is stuffed, I also broke a lower suspension arm recently. I like the car and wouldn't mind fixing it.

Mate, I can't help you, I apologise for that.

Can you please retype your post without caps, you don't need to shout at us?
Could you please re-structure/re-word your post to allow the fellas on here who know the in's out's and roundabout's of mk3's to understand exactly what you are asking?

Im sure Loon, Jmac and some of the other techs will get you an answer tohugh

    Engine swap revisited

Sorry didnt realise I was shouting. Now what I have is a 95 2l cabrio auto. The trans is kahput. The front end must be much the same it snapped the passenger side lower suspension arm(front outer point) and all the bushes are sus judging by the noises. The motor has about 300 on it and I thought I might as well do a motor and trans at the same time as I will be paying to have it done.I like the car and find it handy as a sort of ute for sailing gear and can just get away with it as a family car.SO what motors will fit? I was thinking maybe a wreck or doner to turn the car into a better one.Look forward to your advise and knowledge. I have a friend with an R8 and he cant fit sails in it let alone take his boom home!

Lots of things are possible, whats easy or cheap is another question. Not being the expert on exactly what's what I can only talk in general.

A manual conversion will most likely be cheaper than getting a rebuilt auto, up to you if you want lazy auto or manual.

As for engines, cleaning up the 2.0 will most likely be the cheapest option if there isn't anything wrong with it or getting it rebuilt, ported polished etc if not. No point re-inventing the wheel if you don't have to.

The VR6 should be a pretty straight swap and shouldn't need engineering (although you most likely need a donor car to pull all the wide track suspension bits, brakes, hubs etc etc but will end up with 5x100 wheels (read need new wheels too).

If your really keen you could to a 20V Turbo conversion although this would require engineering and would be worth much more (but would then go like stink )

Well you've got a few options here but to get it a vr6 in it will be pricey due to the labour involved. Not only do u need the motor and gearbox but you'll also need the pedal box and entire engine loom + ecu and dash cluster. It will all go into ur existing fusebox and u can retain ur 4x100 stud pattern if u wanted to but it is alot of work and dont forget to price in service items like timing belt, gaskets, engine mounts, clutch.

I reckon ur best bet is to either just replace the auto box with another auto box and just do a major service for the motor. Or to swap in a lower k's motor and an auto box. Dont forget these 2.0 will last along time provided you do the regular services and look after it right.
