    Engine cuts out in VR

My VR is doing funny things this morning. After driving for about 5 minutes, I noticed that the engine cuts out on full throttle. It has nothing to do with revs as it's fine if you don't floor it.

It feels like it's being starved of oxygen like someone is "covering up" the air intake.

If you keep your foot down, the car stalls, so all you can do is go easy on the throttle.

    Any ideas people?

    Hahahahahha!!!!

You have discovered the VR6's anti-thrash mechanism

You need to wait until the oil temp goes over 50c, then you can do whatever you please.

Until then, if you hammer it the ecu will turn off 2 cylinders and if you persist it'll shut down the engine.

I found this out when I tried to pass a truck once after just leaving my house
Have repeated it several times since. Sneaky ecu!!!!

Nah it was even doing this after a trip back to Nedlands from Osborne Park.

This doesn't feel like it's on 4 cyls, this just cuts out.

    Not a happy camper...

is the fuel pump noisy? If you can hear it then it may be due for replacement and starving the car of fuel. They seem to last about 150k - 200k kms

I can't tell... the whole car is noisey.

There is a new(ish) engine in there, only done 92000 kms. Not sure if the fuel pump is the same or what...

Pity Joe is closed for the holidays.

Is it tough to do that yourself?

OK, I'm gunna get me a fuel filter and install it today. I noticed you have to remove some fuze and then try and start the car, followed by disconnecting the battery. The DIY I found also recomments removal of the back drivers side wheel, is this really necessary?
