    Electric Window Woes

    G'day there,
As the title says, I'm having problems with the windows on my Vento. Under normal circumstances, I'd just put up with the problems, but I need to gett hem all working properly to finalise a RWC to get the car rego'd in my name. Here are the problems. Passenger side rear, noisy operation. I think it needs some tlc and maybe a new plastic cable guide. Driver's side rear, same problem, but plastic pieces completely broken, so I have had a couple of new ones turned out of aluminium. Should fix that. Passenger side front, perfect! If only they were all like that. The real problem child though is the drivers window. It doesn't do anything. I don't know if its the switch, motor or cables etc.
Can anyone provide a clue or process to check out my wayward window?

i had a similar problem, the regulator and/or the motor is gone. You need to pull it out and test it on the ground/out of the car, then you'll know if its the regulator or the motor... or might be the window jamms in the rubbers and the motor hasn't got he power.

Yeah, but how do you get it out to test it, when it won't move and is in the closed position, without stuffing the regulator?

    You cant.

But try unlocking the car and holding the key in the open position in the lock. The windows should all go down.
If the drivers one goes down, the motor and reg are ok, if its dead, take the door trim off and see if it has even got a reg in there.
Very common for them to be buggered. Drivers side reg brand new genuine, from me is $230 delivered to you.

If your drivers motor is shagged, you need another one and a new reg.

Using a complete working secondhand reg and motor is ok, but dont try and swop motors onto old regs, or modify the reg itself. None of these efforts last long.

I have some secondhand motors and regs complete, but no drivers one.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that was not the answer I was hoping for, but expecting, although the method of unlocking the doors and getting all windows to go down is useful info. Will keep you posted on progress.

As expected, the rh front motor is shot. To get to it, I had had to destroy the regulator. Actually the motor is not shot, the circuit board is. When pulled to pieces, the motor by itself works forward and reverse, but not when assembled.
Can you buy a circuit board by itself, or must buy a complete unit. I know VW wants over $500 for one.
Hass anyone played with these circuit boards with any success? Surely there aren't that many components that could go wrong.
