Eagle Eye LED tail light wiring problem

    Hi,

I have installed Eagle Eye Smoke LED tail lights in my mk3 Golf. They do not work exactle how I would expect them to. The grey and white wire in the luggage compartment had nowhere to plug into on the left tail light set. The wires on the left tail light set are the same as the wires on the right tail light set, with nowhere for the grey and white wire to go. The stock left tail light set had a plug for the extra wire to go.

The (red) ring of LEDs for the night lights and the top row of (red) brake LEDs work, and work when they are suppose to. The indicators function normally and the reverse lights work. The bottom row of (red) LEDs do not come on with the brakes; instead, only the bottom row of LEDs on the left tail light come on when I turn on the fog lights. I want the reverse lights to come on when I turn on the fog lights, like they do with the stock tail light sets installed. I want the bottom rows of (red) LEDs on both the left and right tail light sets to come on when I brake.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it? Any assistance with this problem would be much appreciated!

The reverse lights never turn on unless ur in reverse gear. You must be thinking of the rear fog lights which would depend on those new headlights, my guess is they dont have em. U should hook the earths to the body and then see if anything else lights up.

I got mixed up... it wasn't the brown earth, it was the grey and white wire. When the fog light switch is turned on with the stock tail light set installed, the reverse lights are the fog lights. This is normal for a mk3 golf. I want the reverse lights to be the fog lights with the eagle eyes too. Figuring out where to jump the grey and white wire in the eagle eyes should complete the circuit and restore normal functionality. The way they are now is roadworthy and everything. I am just pedantic with my cars and want it to be perfect.

reverse lights coming on with the fog lights is NOT NORMAL on my stock mk3.... rear foglights must be RED by law. reverse lights are white...

it sounds a bit like your 'stock' settings are not stock.

Hoken, why do you keep deleting your own messages and writing it again?
If you want to get your thread to the top of the list, just write BUMP..... (you'll need a few fullstops to get it to 10 characters) in a new post.

Keep in mind people work during the day, you will find your questions will be answered mostly after 6pm EST, once everyone has gone home.

Just a hint, don't just knock it to the top every 5 mins, people will soon get sick of it and chances are you'll get a warning from the moderators.

There was no ulterior motive to deleting my own posts. I was removing abiguity from my messages. Sorry to anybody who interpreted my actions as being rude; I assure you that was not my intention. I have participated in university forums before but am quite new to posting things online. There was probably a more sensible way to do it. I'm still learning.

Thanks. That does sound sensible. Only the bottom left row of red LEDs come on with the fog lights. The unconnected wire comes out of the left hand side of the car. Do you think jumping it in to the left hand tail light set somewhere could get the right hand bottom LEDs to come on too or is that not logical?

I have a VR6 wiring diragram (not a 2.0L one) and I can't seem to find the grey and white wire on it anywhere. All the other wires are accounted for. Will I damage things if I start poking around with my multimeter turning things on and off?

I also have a P-chip for a 91 octane mk3 ECU. Apparently my ECU is 95-96 octane and it won't fit so my P-chip is up for grabs for cheap if anyone knows someone who might want it.
